Business renewable energy case studies
Representative UK projects across the whole renewable stack. The figures below are modelled from real building profiles, half-hourly consumption and typical UK conditions, and show the kind of integrated system, saving and payback we design and deliver.
Integrated solar, battery and EV charging at a Midlands logistics depot
A third-party logistics operator running a 3,000 sqm distribution unit near Birmingham with £110,000 a year in electricity and a growing electric van fleet. The board wanted lower bills, fleet charging, and a credible carbon story for tenders, without a large capital outlay.
- System
- 220 kW rooftop solar + 215 kWh battery + 12 x 22 kW EV chargers
- Annual generation
- 205,000 kWh
- Annual saving
- £61,000
- Simple payback
- 6 years
Outcome: Solar funded on an on-site PPA (zero capex), chargers part-funded by the Workplace Charging Scheme. 82% self-consumption with the battery covering the early-shift ramp; the fleet now charges on self-generated power. The renewable disclosure helped retain a national retail contract.
Efficiency-first heat pump and solar retrofit for a South West office
A 60-person professional-services firm in a 1,400 sqm office near Bristol, paying £34,000 for electricity and £9,000 for gas, fielding net-zero questions from corporate clients. They wanted to remove gas and improve their EPC.
- System
- Energy audit + LED + controls, 80 kW solar PV, 120 kW air-source heat pump
- Annual generation
- 73,000 kWh
- Annual saving
- £26,000
- Simple payback
- 7 years
Outcome: Efficiency measures cut demand 19% first, so the solar and heat pump were sized smaller and cheaper. Gas boiler removed (Scope 1 to near zero), EPC lifted from C to A, 100% AIA recovered a quarter of the capex. Live dashboard shown to visiting clients.
Solar, storage and voltage optimisation for a North West food factory
A food manufacturer on a 24/5 process line in a 9,000 sqm plant with £320,000 annual electricity spend and high, steady daytime demand. Solar was the strongest capital project on the table but they wanted the whole site optimised.
- System
- 750 kW rooftop solar + 400 kWh battery + voltage optimisation + LED
- Annual generation
- 690,000 kWh
- Annual saving
- £172,000
- Simple payback
- 4.5 years
Outcome: Voltage optimisation and LED cut 11% before a panel went up. Solar part-funded through the Industrial Energy Transformation Fund, 88% self-consumption, battery covering the early-shift ramp. The site now reports an 44% cut in grid electricity and won a Tier-1 supply contract requiring renewable disclosure.
